Facts and Conversations Series
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, exciting student traditions such as prom and graduation will be here before you know it. During these events, teens may be faced with difficult decisions to make regarding alcohol. Offering an alcohol-free afterprom and/or after-graduation celebration is one great way to deter underage consumption during these times. Another effective method available is to educate parents on how to speak to their children about alcohol. The Health Alliance on Alcohol (HAA) would like to offer assistance to parents whose teens will soon face these tough decisions through our series of Facts & Conversations books that provide parents with guidance on how to talk to their teens about alcohol.
The HAA is a nationa educational initiative addressing underage alcohol consumption by facilitating parent-child communication through its series of nine physician-authored books that address subjects including underage drinking, peer pressure, alcohol and teen driving, prom and graduation, and spring break. This initiative is sponsored by a collaborative effort of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System, White Plains Hospital Center, Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and Heineken USA. Each of the following books provides parents with facts on a specific aspect of underage drinking, as well as different approaches to initiating and holding the conversation with teenagers.
The books are available at no cost in both English and Spanish. The series includes:
- Talking to Teens: Underage Drinking
